David Rankin graduated from Lawrence High School in 1982 and from The University of Kansas in 1986. With a degree in Music Education, he moved to Ellsworth,Kansas where he was the Director of Music at Ellsworth High School for a total of 17 years. While there, the music program nearly tripled in size and the bands and choirs received numerous awards and recognition.
In 2000 David began a new and exciting career tuning pipe organs and selling and installing Rodgers Organs. In 2013, RankinOrgans150 was founded in order to provide high quality sales and service to the people, churches, and schools of Kansas.
David has studied organ with Winifred Gallup, Jane Anderson, Dr. James Higdon (The University of Kansas), and Dr. Mary Ellen Sutton (Kansas State University).
On June 5th 2006 David had a fight with a chainsaw and the chainsaw won. Although his left hand was re-attached in an 11 hour surgery the results were not what anyone hoped for and his left hand and forearm were amputated in November of 2006. Following God’s lead, with the encouragement of family and friends, David was able to play the organ again. Most say they can’t tell any difference….except the tenor section in choir. <smile>
As owner of RankinOrgans150, David is the Rodgers Organ Dealer and the Johannus Organ Dealer for most of the State of Kansas (90 counties) and tunes and services over 80 pipe organs. He is also Director of Music and Organist at First Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth.
David is blessed to be married to his wife Dina and they have two children, Josh and Laura.
